COD post : Taken in the backyard of of semi-suburban house in Brooklyn that I’ve been inhabiting in short bursts since 1977.

Everyone who has photographed suburbia understands that suburbia is easy to manipulate, especially when you break it down into components.

I added the Scott Walker lyric because I liked it, and because I was thinking about the visual correlation between the rope used to lead horses, the rope used to hang clothes, and the rope used to hang men.

There are so many creative misfires in the new world odor, and most of them spring from the following situation: You’re asked to craft a campaign aimed at the same irreverent, post-Adult Swim generation who despises the product you’re marketing, maybe because said product is, oh, hypothetically speaking, a dinosauric piece of anti-virus flotsam that’s about as effective as sticking a piece of saltwater taffy on your hard drive.

And then there’s the spot featured above, in all it’s glory.

“Protect your chicken from Dokken.” Words to live by.

It’s B-O-L-O-N-E-Y.

A fried bologna biscuit. Hardee’s couldn’t have picked a better recession era snack. It’s the kind of product that makes you feel like you’re saving money by spending money to buy it. How Nuevo Pobrecito of you. And bologna is so charmingly retro. Even the word “bologna” is comforting. Except for all that silly talk about saturated fat and sodium. When are people going to wake up and realize that now that we’re all poor, it doesn’t matter what kind of crap we eat? In the meantime, how are we going to advertise this nutritional nightmare? Hummmm….
